PFC Farmers Markets!

WHEN: 5 days weekly, all summer and fall!

 

WHERE: Multiple locations throughout Kalamazoo and Portage

 

WHAT: PFC operates three farmers markets - Kalamazoo Farmers Market, Portage Market, and 100-Mile Market! If you're looking for fresh local produce, baked goodies, cheeses, meats, prepared foods and food trucks, artisan goods, and much more, you're looking in the right place.

Our purpose is to connect customers and market businesses through honest relationships and to support community and local economies through a thriving market culture.  
 

We accept Bridge Cards at the market, and we participate in the Double Up Food Bucks program. SNAP benefits customers, bring your Bridge Card to the market to get your SNAP tokens. SNAP benefits will be matched up to $20 for fresh Michigan-grown fruits and veggies. That's $20 for free!
 

Many market vendors will accept SNAP benefits, Double Up Food Bucks, WIC Project FRESH and Market FRESH coupons.

Cooking Class: Cooking with Vegan Proteins

WHAT: Calling everyone interested in eating lighter and healthier! 

 

In this class cosponsored by Vegan Kalamazoo, expert vegan cook Jan Tobochnik will take you through the wide and wonderful world of vegan proteins. Together you'll make seitan, and he'll also show you how to use tofu, tempeh, seitan, and beans in stir fries, and discuss how to make other savory and nutritious dishes.

 

Jan Tobochnik, a professor of physics at Kalamazoo College, has been vegan for four years. He currently lives in Kalamazoo with his partner, writer Hillary Rettig, and their rescue dog Billy.

Cooking Class: Cooking for Diabetes Type I

WHAT: Calling everyone interested in managing diabetes! 

 

In this class cosponsored by Vegan Kalamazoo, Chef Paul Vugteveen will share how his personal diagnosis with Type 1 Diabetes (T1D) at the age of 25 is woven into all of his food choices, leading him to a whole foods, vegan diet. He'll discuss what glycemic index (GI) is and why it's important, how to shop for and prepare low GI foods, and tips for kids, athletes, and others. He'll also show you how to lower the GI of yummy but traditionally high-GI foods such as risotto, pasta dishes, and baked goods! 

 

Paul is the Chef at Pierce Cedar Creek Institute in Hastings, MI, and has also cooked at the JW Marriott (Grand Rapids), Zingerman's Bakehouse (Ann Arbor), and Avalon International Breads (Detroit). He currently lives in Kalamazoo with his partner, Lindsey, and their dog and two cats.
