Basket Option #1:
The Breakfast Basket is filled with a great selection
of locally grown and/or produced items. The Breakfast Basket contains a coffee blend from Higher Grounds Trading Co., Michigan’s only fair trade organic coffee roaster. Higher Grounds is a values driven company supporting coffee cooperatives, biodiversity, organic practices and social responsibility. Also included in this basket is Food for Thought’s organic multi-grain pancake mix. Food for Thought is another Michigan-based company focusing on fair trade, organic and sustainable practices and “supporting our human and natural environment.” Food for Thought was named one of Michigan’s 50 Companies to Watch in 2008. And what would pancakes be without Jack &
Jill’s Maple Hill Farm maple syrup? Jack & Jill’s grade B (that means it’s just a touch less sweet with a lot
more minerals) maple syrup is produced 20 miles away in Paw Paw. Jack, Jill and their daughters do all of the harvesting and production themselves. They work hard
to support the local economy, to teach folks about where food really comes from and to produce a product that
they are passionate about.
Basket Option #2:
The Michigan Treats Basket contains maple syrup sweetened granola and a variety of maple coated nuts from Jack & Jill’s Maple Hill Farm. You will also find Chocolate Bloomers, a joint project of Michigan distributor Honey Boy Bob, Ann Arbor’s Bur Oaks Farm and Gilbert Fine Chocolates out of Jackson. These addictive little chocolate delights are Gilbert’s rich dark chocolate poured over Bur oaks dryroasted soynuts and Michigan tart cherries. Also in the Michigan Treats Basket is honey from Hannar Apiaries in Schoolcraft. This is our deliciously sweet bulk honey in a one-pound jar. And of course, we can’t forget about the Fair Harvest preserves. Fair Harvest is “cooperative enterprise” of Michigan co-ops including you very own People’s Food co-op. These delicious preserves are 100% organic, produced with Michigan fruits and Fair trade sweeteners. You’ll find one of three flavors in the Michigan Treats Basket.
Basket Option #3:
The Feeling Goodie Basket is filled with a variety items to help you relax and feel good. This basket has some nice items from local artisans like Curvey Girl Soap from Dowagiac. Made with olive, coconut, palm, and essential oils. Each bar is uniquely scented with homegrown or wildcrafted herbs. Also made with homegrown or wild-crafted herbs is the Goop Stick Healing Lip Salve from Galesburg herbalist and midwife Granny Janny. this nourishing salve is made from comfrey, calendula and plantain along with olive oil and beeswax. You’ll also get a 2.5oz tranquility mineral bath from Aura Cacia and organic lotion from Dr. Bronner’s. Dr. Bronner’s lotion is made almost entirely of certified organic ingredients including organic coconut and jojoba oils, and lives up to the quality that we’ve come to expect from Dr. Bronner’s. Nothing could round out this feel good basket better than a sweet-smelling 100% tupelo beeswax candle made by local artisan Maria Dault in dowagiac.
Basket option #4:
The People’s Basket contains a variety of People’s Food Co-op gear including a People’s Food co-op hemp and cotton tote bag produced using fair labor practices, a 100% cotton People’s Food Co-op adult-sized t-shirt fairly made in the uSA by American Apparel and one of the new People’s Food co-op Chico Bags. Chico Bags are reusable bags that fold up into an attached pouch small enough to fit in your bag or clip onto your keys or belt loop with the attached clip.

You will now find a great new product on the shelves of People's Food Co-op: Fair Harvest Jams. These jams are made from locally grown fruit, and support the values of our cooperative: vibrant local economies, clean environment, strong community, and healthy lifestyles.
Fair Harvest Preserves is a collaborative effort of the eleven Co-ops in the Great Lakes Region along with the help and expertise of Food for Thought in Honor, MI.
These preserves are certified Fair Trade, certified organic, and produced from regional fruit. Fair Harvest is also a wonderful example of the 6th Cooperative Principle in action: Cooperation among Cooperatives.
By purchasing these preserves, you can feel confi dent
that you are demonstrating your support for the domestic
fair trade movement. Domestic fair trade is a movement rooted in the principles of international Fair Trade which states farmers are paid a fair and just wage. Domestic Fair Trade takes it one step beyond. It is based on the belief that together, we may help create a more holistic model of commerce by building on the values of Fair Trade as well as the values of the organic and sustainable agricultural movements.
