Volunteer Opportunities

As a community-owned grocery, we have made a conscious choice to involve our community in a great many ways, including encouraging volunteerism. At People's we depend on people like yourself to help make the organization stronger through volunteering both in the store and at special events.

The PFC is incredibly grateful to all of you who lend a hand to keep our store running.

Storefront Opportunities:

To volunteer in the store you must be an owner and complete a volunteer orientation. Please contact our Volunteer Coordinator, Heather Crull, if you'd like to help.

Our current volunteer opportunities include:

  • Deli Dishwashing - The Deli staff loves a helping hand, streamlining their day. Bonus: Enjoy a free Deli sandwich or bowl of soup after a dishwashing shift!
  • Weekend Cleaning - Help us keep the new store looking great!
  • Farmers' Market Help - We'd love some assistance distributing and receiving SNAP tokens at our table at the Indoor Kalamazoo Food Market
  • Signs, Signs, Signs - Enjoy hanging out in the office while helping to cut and laminate store signs
  • Quarterly Inventory - This is a great way to get to know the staffers and products at PFC! Our next inventory is January 1.

Art Hop Artists for 2012
Would you like your work to be considered for an Art Hop event at the PFC in 2012? Please download and return an Art Hop Application Form. Artists do not have to be PFC owners. For more information, contact our outreach and volunteer coordinator Heather Crull.

Board of Director Opportunities:

Board members are some of our most committed volunteers. They have taken on oversight and governance of the organization as their volunteer job. If you are interested in attending board meetings or finding out more information, please contact Aliisa Lahti.

How do I become a volunteer at People's?

There are three easy steps to becoming a volunteer with us:

  1. Pick up or download a volunteer application. Fill it out and bring it into the store.
  2. Sign up for a volunteer orientation. Call the store at 342-5686 or email Heather Crull to find out dates or to sign up.
  3. Attend a brief orientation. Orientations take approximately 30 - 60 minutes, depending on the number of people. You will receive a tour of the store and additional information about volunteer opportunities. You will also be able to sign up for tasks and times right there and then!
